Barnyard Millet Upma

A nutritious twist on classic upma — made with barnyard millet and fresh vegetables. Gluten-free, high in fibre, and perfect for a filling start to your day.

Ingredients :

1. ½ cup barnyard millet (washed and drained)
2. 1 tbsp oil or ghee
3. ½ tsp mustard seeds
4. ½ tsp cumin seeds
5. 1 pinch hing (asafoetida)
6. 1 sprig curry leaves
7. 1 small onion (finely chopped)
8. 1 green chilli (slit)
9. ½ cup chopped vegetables (carrot, beans, peas)
10. Salt to taste
11. 1½ cups water
12. Fresh coriander and lemon juice for garnish

Procedure :


1. Switch on Sauté Mode in the MultiCook. Heat oil or ghee.
2. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
3. Add onion and green chilli. Sauté for 1–2 minutes.
4. Add mixed vegetables and sauté for another 2–3 minutes.
5. Add washed barnyard millet and mix well.
6. Add water and salt. Stir and cancel Sauté Mode.
7. Close the lid and press the 'Millets' button on the MultiCook.
8. Let cooking finish and allow pressure to release naturally.
9. Open the lid, fluff gently with a fork.
10. Garnish with coriander and lemon juice. Serve hot.
