A simple, hearty dal tempered with spices — a comfort food classic in every Indian home. Perfect with rice, roti, or just a drizzle of ghee on top.

INGREDIENTS
For Dal:
- ½ cup toor dal (washed and soaked for 20 mins)
- 1 small tomato (chopped)
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 2½ cups water
For Tempering:
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- 1–2 dried red chillies
- 1 pinch hing (asafoetida)
- 1 green chilli (slit)
- 1 tsp ginger (grated or finely chopped)
- 1 small onion (finely chopped, optional)
- ½ tsp red chilli powder
- Fresh coriander for garnish
PROCEDURE
- Add soaked toor dal, chopped tomato, turmeric powder, salt, and water into the MultiCook.
- Close the lid and select the 'Dal' preset.
- Let the MultiCook complete cooking and allow the pressure to release naturally.
- Open the lid and lightly mash the dal for a smooth consistency. Keep it on Keep Warm mode.
- In a small pan, heat ghee or oil for tempering.
- Add cumin seeds, hing, and dried red chillies. Let them splutter.
- Add green chilli, ginger, and onion. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add red chilli powder and quickly stir (do not burn).
- Pour the prepared tadka into the dal in the MultiCook and mix well.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.
